About Us
Our History
ALS Food & Environmental NZ (Formerly Analytica Laboratories) began developing innovative testing solutions in 2011, building on decades of prior experience that the founders had in commercial testing, research, and science based business.
Today, our strong team of over 150 technical and operational staff use world class equipment to deliver testing services that are faster, better, and cheaper than those available from other laboratories, with customer service that is widely regarded as being the best in the industry.
ALS Food & Environmental NZ is part of ALS Global, a global leader in testing. For more than 40 years, ALS has provided comprehensive testing solutions to clients in a wide range of industries all over the world. Discover more about ALS Global here.
Our New Zealand network is centred on our main facility in Hamilton (NZ) with a regional laboratory located in Hawke's Bay (ALS Environmental NZ - Hawke's Bay).
Initially ALS Food & Environmental NZ’s focus was on providing commercial R&D services. Over the 2013-2015 period we responded to urgent needs in the NZ dairy and honey industries, building a range of innovative new testing services which position ALS Food & Environmental NZ as a leading testing supplier to these industries. Since 2016, ALS Food & Environmental NZ has added environmental and occupational hygiene (methamphetamine and asbestos) testing. In 2024, we acquired Food Lab Pacific (ALS Food NZ), who specialize in dairy product testing for export, food microbiology, and hygiene monitoring.
We continue to find ways of supporting customers in new markets, and welcome the opportunity to discuss this with them. Our testing services typically offer radical improvements in speed, price, or service that transform the industries we are involved with.
We are ISO 17025 accredited by IANZ - our current scope of accreditation is always available on the IANZ website. This means that we are independently assessed to have skilled staff, using robust testing methods, to deliver results you can trust. We are also a part of the MPI Recognised Laboratory Programme, meaning our testing of honey and milk is used to verify the quality of goods being exported from New Zealand.
Our Values
ALS Food & Environmental NZ’s success depends on having a great team of staff – who love working in our company, fit well with our team and company values, and who have the right knowledge and skills (or the ability to learn).
- Safe - More than a policy, safety is in our DNA. Managing risk and protecting the wellbeing of our people guides every aspect of the way we do business.
- Resilient - Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. It is precisely our ability to overcome obstacles and self-belief that brings value to the task-at-hand.
- Curious - Innovation is drawn from the eagerness of doing things better. To be open-minded means we will give new ideas their proper measure before rendering judgement.
- Committed - We are part of a team that relies on one another to deliver our best. Each time we perform a task, remember that a client or colleague is counting on our continued effort towards improvement as well as our unrivalled hard work.
- Caring - Our enduring focus is on diverse people and their ideas. We encourage a culture of freethinking and problem-solving. We are a part of the greater good, so let's celebrate the wins together and make the world just a little better.
- Honest - Truth is the precursor to knowledge. There can be no science built on falsity. Be honest in what you know and don't know. Speak simply and with integrity so that others can appreciate both.
